WEEKEND RECAP: Consistency Wins in the California Heat

BothCareth Arnold andGenevieve Harrison showed that consistency is king when racing in the canyons. At this event, the story wasn't just the lightning-fast pace, it was the deep preparation.

Careth’s Road to the Podium

  • The Result: 2nd Place (100K)

Careth has been entirely open about her past struggles with race-day nutrition, but this weekend proved she has finally cracked the code.

"I don’t normally talk about my race nutrition because I historically haven’t been great at it. But I think I’m starting to get it right. 🙃 I put the effort in this training block to train my gut to be more consistent... I felt so fly."

  • The Strategy: She targeted a "sweet spot" of60g/h, but front-loaded the first 4 hours with70-80g/h while her digestion was running at maximum efficiency.

  • Fighting Palate Fatigue: To avoid the mid-race "sugar ick," she relied on12x BOOST™ Neutral Gels. By sticking to a flavorless base, she kept her gut happy for the full 100K.

  • The Savory Reset: She usedSalted Cucumber Drink Mix and oneSalted Lemon Gel as a "savory cleanse" between gels to keep her palate fresh and her sodium levels high.

  • The Caffeine Kick: While Careth doesn’t consume caffeine on a regular basis, she strategically timed3x Peach Tea Gels to maintain focus late in the game.

Genevieve’s Steady State

  • The Result: 4th Place Overall (100M)

Genevieve focused on ultimate simplicity for her 100-mile journey. She maintained a steady~75g of carbs/h usingBOOST™ gels with electrolytes. Her secret weapon? Alternating the sweetness of gels with the occasional salty crunch of pretzels to reset her palate and maintain gut motility.
