WEEKEND RECAP: Chassagne’s Progressive Masterclass
The "Géant de Provence" didn't stand a chance.Baptiste Chassagne delivered an "ultra giant" performance on the 100K, whileThomas Butez andMathieu Delpeuch completely dominated the high-intensity 50K.
Baptiste’s Progressive Loading Strategy
-
The Result: 1st Place Overall (100K Winner)
Baptiste took care of business on home soil with a strategy that focused on a progressive approach to avoid early GI distress while maintaining late-race power. He avoided the common mistake of "front-loading" too much sugar early in the day.
-
The Start: A consistent70-80g of carbs/h for the first 3 hours, ensuring his nutrient absorption remained optimal without overloading the stomach.
-
Hydration: A steady650mL/h to maintain concentration and facilitate gel absorption. This also ensured the sugar was properly diluted.
-
Sodium Mastery:Averaging550mg/h to maintain volume without over-saturating.
-
The "Wait" Flask: 15g of carbs + 300mg sodium sipped 75 minutes before the start gun, allowing for a powerful finish on the final descent into Malaucène.
The 50K Speedsters: 100g/h Club
-
Thomas Butez (4th Place): Hit a massive100g/h (over 400g total), alternating between BOOST™ Gel Salted Lemon and Ice Mint and Peach Tea every 40 minutes, to maintain absolute peak intensity.
-
Mathieu Delpeuch: Averaged95g/h, strategically increasing carb density in the middle section (consuming 195g between the Start and Mont-Serein alone).
